Look around you! Colors are everywhere in nature and art. Some colors are special because they are the start of all other colors. We call these primary colors: red, yellow, and blue.
When we mix two primary colors together, we make a secondary color! Red and yellow make orange. Yellow and blue make green. Blue and red make purple.
Artists find patterns and balance in nature. Think of a ladybug. It has repeating black dots on a red shell. This repetition makes a fun pattern! The dots are balanced on both sides.
✏️ Worked example
Let us paint a balanced butterfly. We want to use primary colors to make secondary colors. How do we do this step by step?
First, we draw a line down the middle of our paper. This helps us make both sides look balanced.
Next, we paint a big blue circle on the left wing, and another blue circle on the right wing.
Then, we paint a yellow circle right next to each blue circle on both sides.
Now, we mix the blue and yellow paint where they touch. We watch them turn into green!
Finally, we look at our art. We have a balanced butterfly with primary blue and secondary green!
