Hi there! I am Studyfin, your art tutor. Today, we will explore patterns and symmetry in our world!
Artists find cool patterns and balance in nature and in things made by people. We call these the elements of art and principles of design.

Repetition is when we use lines, shapes, or colors over and over. This creates a pattern that guides your eyes across the artwork.
Balance makes art feel stable. Symmetry is a special kind of balance where both sides look exactly the same, like a mirror image.
✏️ Worked example
Let us analyze a ladybug in nature. How do we find its pattern and line of symmetry?
- First, look at the shape of the ladybug. It has a round body with a line running straight down the middle.
- Next, look at the colors and spots. There are red wings with black dots on both sides.
- Now, spot the pattern. The black dots repeat on the red background.
- Finally, check for symmetry. If you draw a line down the middle, the left side matches the right side perfectly.
