Hi there! Today, we are going to learn how to write clear instructions. In coding, we call this creating an algorithm!
An algorithm is just a list of steps to finish a task. When you write steps for a computer, you must put them in the correct order. We call this order a sequence.
Let us look at a simple task like making toast. First, you put the bread in the toaster. Next, you push the lever down. Finally, you take the warm toast out.
If you mix up the steps, the task will fail! Imagine trying to push the lever down before putting the bread in. The computer gets confused when steps are out of order.
✏️ Worked example
Let us write an algorithm to wash our hands. We need to make sure the steps are in the correct order so our hands get clean!
First, wet your hands with clean, running water.
Second, apply soap to your wet hands.
Third, rub your hands together to make soapy bubbles.
Fourth, rinse the soap off with clean water.
Fifth, dry your hands with a clean towel.
