Mobile app basics

Grade 7 · Coding · Free lesson

Welcome! Today we will explore how mobile apps are made, and how you can use your own courage to design one.

Every mobile app you use starts with a design. Designing an app is a creative journey where you solve real-world problems for your users.

When you design an app, you will run into tricky challenges. Having the courage to face these bugs and errors helps you grow as a designer.

Setting clear, small goals helps you stay on track. By breaking a big app design into tiny steps, you build the confidence to finish your project.

✏️ Worked example

Imagine your app's main button does not work when clicked. Walk through how to resolve this design challenge independently using goal setting and personal character traits.

  1. Identify the exact challenge: The main action button in your app prototype is frozen.
  2. Demonstrate courage: Instead of giving up or getting upset, stay calm and believe in your coding skills.
  3. Set a clear goal: Decide to test just the button's click connection first, rather than trying to fix the whole screen at once.
  4. Take independent action: Open your code block editor, trace the line connecting the button to the action, and look for any gaps.
  5. Build confidence: Find the missing connection block, snap it into place, and test the button successfully.
