Hi there! I am Studyfin. Let's learn how to listen and ask great questions!
Active listening means you pay close attention. You do not just hear the words. You think about them.

When you listen, ask questions to help you understand. This is called clarifying. It helps clear up any confusion.
Good questions connect to the topic. If a friend talks about cats, ask about their cat. Do not ask about toy cars!
✏️ Worked example
Sam says: 'My dog went to the vet today. He hurt his paw.' What is the best question to ask Sam to show you are listening?
- Step 1: Listen to Sam's words. The main topic is his dog hurting his paw.
- Step 2: Think about what you need to know. You want to know if the dog is okay.
- Step 3: Make a question about the dog's paw. Do not talk about your own toys.
- Step 4: Ask: 'Is his paw feeling better now?' This is a great, caring question!
