Hi there! I am Studyfin, your friendly learning buddy. Today we will explore how to find the main idea of a story!

Every story has a big story goal. This is called the main idea. It is the most important thing the writer wants you to learn.

mind

To find the main idea, we look for clues. These clues are called details. Details are small facts that support the main idea like legs on a table.

Detail 1 Detail 2 Detail 3 MAIN IDEA (Supported by details!)

Let us evaluate, or test, our details. We ask: Do these facts all talk about the same big topic? If they do, they prove our main idea is correct!
