Next, you need detail sentences. These sentences give facts or reasons. They must all stick to your main topic so your writing stays focused.

Let's build a focused paragraph about apples. We have a topic sentence: 'Apples are a very healthy snack.' Let's choose the right detail sentences and put them together.
First, look at our topic: apples are healthy snacks.
Next, pick details that match. 'They have lots of vitamins' fits perfectly.
Check another detail. 'The fiber in them helps your tummy' also fits our health topic.
Throw out any details that do not fit. 'Monkeys like bananas' does not belong in our apple paragraph.
Now, write the sentences in order. Start with your topic sentence, then add your details.
Read it aloud to make sure it flows smoothly and stays focused on apples!
