Hello! I am Studyfin, your learning buddy. Today we will learn how to read smoothly and with great feeling!
Reading fluency means reading out loud smoothly. It is like driving a car. You do not want to stop and start too much.
Fluency has three main parts. First, you read the words correctly. Second, you read at a good speed. Third, you use your voice to show feeling.
Punctuation marks are like road signs. A comma tells you to take a quick pause. A period tells you to stop for a moment. This makes your reading sound like natural talking.
✏️ Worked example
Let us practice reading a short sentence with good fluency: "The dog barked, and then he ran!"
Look at the whole sentence first to see the words and punctuation.
Spot the comma after 'barked'. Plan to take a very short breath there.
Spot the exclamation mark at the end. Plan to sound excited when you say 'ran'.
Read it out loud: 'The dog barked (pause) and then he ran!'
Notice how the voice goes up at the end to sound happy and energetic.
