When you speak to a group, your voice and your body work together. A great speech needs a clear opinion, good eye contact, and a friendly speaking voice.
Eye contact means looking at your audience. When you look at people, they listen closely. It shows them that you care about your topic and your listeners.
To persuade others, you must back up your opinion with facts. An opinion is how you feel, but facts prove why your opinion makes sense.
✏️ Worked example
Imagine you want to convince your class that recess should be longer. How can you present this opinion using your voice, eyes, and facts?
- State your opinion clearly: 'I believe we should have ten more minutes of recess.'
- Add a real fact: 'Studies show that exercise helps kids focus better on math and reading.'
- Look around the room: Make eye contact with three different friends as you speak.
- Speak slowly and stand tall: Use a proud, clear voice so the teacher can hear you.
