Summarizing

Grade 4 · English Language Arts · Free lesson

Hi there! I am Studyfin, your learning buddy. Today we will learn how to summarize a story!

A summary is a short way to retell a story. It only keeps the most important parts. It must keep the same meaning and stay in the correct order.

board

Think of a summary like a small puzzle. We leave out the tiny details. We only keep the big pieces that show the whole picture.

Beginning Ending Only the main parts fit!

To summarize, we can use the 'Somebody, Wanted, But, So, Then' tool. This tool helps us write the story in the right order without losing the meaning.
