Hello! I am Studyfin, your learning buddy. Today we are going to explore the exciting world of book genres!

Every book belongs to a family called a genre. A genre is a category of writing. Knowing a book's genre helps you know what to expect before you even start reading.

to learn

Let us look at two popular genres: Mystery and Fantasy. A mystery has a puzzle, like a missing object. A fantasy has magic, like talking animals or spells.

Mystery Clues & Puzzles Fantasy Magic & Worlds

Another important genre is Biography. A biography is a true story about a real person's life. It is written by someone else to show why that person is important.

Biography A True Life Story
✏️ Worked example

Let us analyze this book description step-by-step: "Elena finds a dusty map in her attic. The map leads to a hidden room in her school. She must follow clues to find a lost, shiny key before Friday."

  1. Look for clues in the story. We see words like 'map', 'hidden room', 'clues', and 'lost key'.
  2. Think about what these clues mean. They show a character trying to solve a puzzle.
  3. Compare this to our genres. Fantasy needs magic. Biography needs a real person's life.
  4. Since there is no magic and it is a fictional puzzle, this fits the Mystery genre perfectly!
