Every complete sentence needs a subject and a verb. The subject is who or what does the action. The verb is the action word itself.
Sometimes we make mistakes when we write. Editing means finding these mistakes and fixing them. We must make sure our words match up correctly.
We also need to check our punctuation and capital letters. Every sentence starts with a capital letter and ends with a punctuation mark.
✏️ Worked example
Let us edit this draft sentence together: "the happy frogs jumps in the pond"
- Look at the very first word. It starts with a lowercase letter 't'. We must change it to a capital 'T'.
- Next, look at the subject 'frogs'. It is plural, which means there is more than one frog.
- Now look at the verb 'jumps'. Since 'frogs' is plural, the verb should be 'jump' without the 's'.
- Finally, look at the end of the sentence. It is missing a period. We must add one.
- Our newly edited sentence is: "The happy frogs jump in the pond."
