Before you write, you need a plan. An outline is like a map for your writing. It keeps your ideas focused so your reader does not get lost.
A great plan has three main parts. First is the introduction to hook your reader. Next are the body paragraphs with details. Last is the conclusion to wrap it up.
To keep your writing focused, make sure every detail connects to your main topic. If a detail does not match, we leave it out of our plan.

Let us practice organizing a paragraph about why bees are helpful. We need to choose the best details and put them in order.
Identify the main goal: Explain why bees are helpful to our world.
Look at our ideas: 'Bees make sweet honey,' 'Bees pollinate flowers to help plants grow,' and 'Some bees live in hives.'
Evaluate the ideas: Honey and pollination show how bees help us. The hive detail is interesting, but it does not show how they help.
Group the chosen details: Start with pollination because it helps grow our food. Then, add the sweet detail about making honey.
Write the final paragraph structure: Start with a hook about bees, add the two helpful details, and close with a thank-you to bees.
