To persuade your reader, you must back up your claim with facts and examples. Think of these reasons as strong pillars that hold up your main opinion.

Let us write a short opinion essay about why recess should be longer. We want to persuade our school principal!
- First, write a clear claim: 'Recess should be fifteen minutes longer each day.'
- Next, find reason one: 'A longer break gives students more time to exercise and stay healthy.'
- Then, find reason two: 'Playing longer helps students focus much better in class afterward.'
- Finally, write a conclusion that restates your claim in a fresh way to remind the reader of your goal.
