Every story has a narrator. The narrator is the voice that tells us what is happening.

Read this short story passage and find the point of view. Explain your thinking step by step: 'Leo packed his blue backpack. He felt excited about his first day at the new school.'

  1. Look closely at the pronouns used in the sentence.
  2. Find pronouns like 'his' and 'he' instead of 'I' or 'my'.
  3. Notice that the narrator is not a character in the story.
  4. Explain that the narrator is looking at Leo from the outside.
  5. Conclude that this story is written in the third-person point of view.
