Hi there! I am Studyfin, your friendly writing coach. Today we will learn how to organize our ideas so our writing is clear and easy to read!
Every great piece of writing starts with a plan. An outline is like a map for your essay that helps you stay focused on your main goal.

A good outline has three main parts: an introduction to grab attention, body paragraphs for details, and a solid conclusion to wrap it up.
To keep your writing structured, make sure every detail in your body paragraphs directly connects back to your main idea. If a detail does not match, remove it!
Let us build an outline together! We are writing a short paragraph about why dogs make great pets. We need to select only the details that support this topic and arrange them logically.
- Identify the main goal: Prove that dogs make great pets.
- Look at our ideas: Idea A (Dogs are loyal friends), Idea B (Cats sleep a lot), Idea C (Dogs keep you active with walks).
- Remove Idea B because it is about cats, which does not support our main goal about dogs.
- Structure the outline: Start with a topic sentence, list the two dog details, and write a closing sentence.
- Review the outline to ensure it flows logically and stays completely focused on dogs.
