Welcome! Today we will explore how stories are built using plot mountains.
Every great story has a structure called a plot mountain. The story starts with the exposition, which introduces the characters and setting.
Next comes the rising action. Here, small events build up tension as the main character faces a problem.
The climax is the most exciting turning point. After that, the falling action calms things down, leading to the final resolution.
✏️ Worked example
Analyze the plot elements of 'Three Little Pigs' to identify the turning point (climax).
- Step 1: Read the story events. The pigs build houses, and the wolf blows two down.
- Step 2: Identify the rising action. The wolf chases the pigs to the brick house.
- Step 3: Find the climax. The wolf tries to come down the chimney into boiling water. This is the highest moment of tension!
- Step 4: Identify the falling action and resolution. The wolf runs away, and the pigs live safely in the brick house.
