Summarizing means taking a long passage and retelling the main ideas in your own words. It is much shorter than the original text, but it still keeps the same meaning.
To write a great summary, you must keep the logical order of the story. This means you tell the events in the same order they happened: the beginning, the middle, and the end.
When you paraphrase, you rewrite the author's ideas using your own vocabulary. You must be careful not to change the facts or the author's original meaning.

- Find the resolution or outcome. (She fixed it quickly and won second place.)
- Combine these key details into one sentence using your own words. Keep the same order of events.
- Draft your final summary: 'Although Lola's science fair robot broke on the morning of the contest, she quickly repaired it and won second place.'
