  2. Check the syllabication dots or dashes. You will see: be·nev·o·lent. This word has four syllables.
  3. Look at the pronunciation guide: /bəˈnev.əl.ənt/. The apostrophe symbol tells you to stress the second syllable: 'nev'.
  4. Identify the part of speech. The entry lists 'adj.' which means it is an adjective used to describe a kind person.
