Earth has different climate zones. A climate is the weather a place has over a long time. These zones have different landforms, plants, and natural resources.
The tropical zone is near the middle of Earth. It gets strong, direct sunlight all year. This makes the climate very hot and wet, creating thick green rainforests.
The polar zones are at the very top and bottom of Earth. The sun rays hit these areas at a slant. This keeps the polar climate freezing cold and covered in ice.
Let us compare two different places on Earth. Place A is a hot, wet tropical rainforest. Place B is a cold, icy polar tundra. How do their environments and natural resources differ?
- First, look at the climate. Place A gets direct sunlight, so it is hot and wet. Place B gets slanted sunlight, so it is freezing cold.
- Next, look at the plants. Place A has tall trees and thick green forests because of the rain. Place B has almost no trees, only tiny mosses that can live in ice.
- Then, look at the natural resources. Place A has rich wood from trees and lots of fresh water. Place B has resources like oil buried deep under the frozen ground.
- Finally, think about natural hazards. Place A might face heavy floods from rain. Place B faces extreme blizzards and freezing storms.
