A region is a group of states that share the same location. They often have similar weather, land, and history. The United States has four main regions: the Northeast, the South, the Midwest, and the West.
Let us look at the Northeast. It has busy cities, rocky coasts, and cold winters. Next is the South, which is famous for warm weather, flat coastal plains, and delicious food.
Now we find the Midwest, which has flat, grassy plains perfect for farming. In the West, you will find high mountains, deep canyons, and beautiful ocean views.
Imagine you are visiting a state with very tall mountains, giant redwood trees, and a long ocean coast. Let us figure out which of the four regions you are visiting!
- First, look at the clues: we have tall mountains, giant trees, and a long ocean coast.
- Next, think about the Midwest. The Midwest is mostly flat land for farming, so it does not fit our clues.
- Then, think about the Northeast and the South. They have coasts, but they do not have giant redwood trees or the tallest mountain ranges.
- Finally, think about the West. The West is famous for the Rocky Mountains, big redwood forests, and the Pacific Ocean coast.
