Plants and animals must adapt to their biome to survive. This means they change how they look or act. For example, a cactus stores water in its thick stem to survive in the dry desert.
Let us think about a cold, windy place with very little rain and frozen ground. This biome is called the tundra. How does a small, fuzzy plant adapt to live here?
- First, look at the weather: it is very cold and windy.
- Next, think about the wind. Tall plants would get broken by strong winds.
- So, the plant adapts by growing very close to the ground to stay safe.
- Then, think about the cold. The plant grows fuzzy hairs on its leaves.
- These fuzzy hairs act like a warm coat to trap heat from the sun.
