Changes in our climate and resources mean we must assess, or judge, how our roads and technology can help us stay safe.
✏️ Worked example
Let's compare how people in a hot, dry desert and a wet, rainy coast adapt to their environments and modify them.
- Step 1: Compare the environments. The desert is dry with little water. The coast has lots of water but faces floods.
- Step 2: Look at how they adapt. Desert people wear loose clothes to stay cool. Coastal people build houses on tall stilts to stay dry.
- Step 3: Look at how they modify the land. Desert people dig deep wells to find water. Coastal people build giant sea walls to block high waves.
- Step 4: Explain the big picture. Both groups change their homes and habits to survive, but they do it in different ways based on their local weather.
