Next, pick a safe meeting place outside. A tree or mailbox far from the house works great.
To evaluate your plan, walk through it with your family. Practice getting out fast and meeting outside.

Help Sam make a fire safety plan for his bedroom.
- Step 1: Look around Sam's bedroom to find two exits.
- Step 2: Exit 1 is the main hallway door. Exit 2 is the bedroom window.
- Step 3: Pick a safe spot outside. Sam chooses the big oak tree by the sidewalk.
- Step 4: Explain the plan to Sam's family so everyone knows what to do.
- Step 5: Test the plan by practicing a night fire drill together.
