Grade 4 · Health & Wellness · Free lesson

Hello! I am Studyfin, your learning buddy. Today we will learn how to be a great friend and solve problems together!

Being a good friend means using positive social skills. We show respect by listening and kindness by sharing. We show truth by being honest, and reliability by doing what we promise.

Sometimes friends disagree, and that is okay! We can solve conflicts by taking deep breaths and talking quietly. Listening to each other helps us find a fair way to fix the problem.

Respect means valuing other people. When we speak kindly and take turns, we make our friendships stronger. This helps everyone feel safe and happy.

✏️ Worked example

Sam and Taylor both want to play with the same red ball at recess. They are both pulling on it and getting angry. How can they use positive social skills to solve this conflict?

  1. First, they stop pulling and take a deep breath to calm their bodies down.
  2. Next, Sam honestly explains his feelings by saying, 'I want to play catch with you.'
  3. Then, Taylor shows respect by listening without interrupting.
  4. Finally, they choose a kind solution together, like taking turns or playing catch as a team.
