Mental & emotional wellness

Grade 4 · Health & Wellness · Free lesson

Hi there! Today we will explore how our thoughts and feelings guide what we do.

Mental and emotional wellness means keeping our minds and feelings healthy. Our thoughts, feelings, and actions are all connected like a team.

When you have a thought, it often creates a feeling. That feeling then drives how you act. For example, thinking a test is too hard can make you feel scared.

Thought Feeling Action

We can change our actions by changing our thoughts. If you think, 'I can try my best,' you will feel calm. This calm feeling helps you try hard.

"I can try my best!"
✏️ Worked example

Let us analyze how a thought about a school play influences a student's behavior.

  1. Identify the situation: Maya has to speak on stage at the school play.
  2. Look at the negative thought: Maya thinks, 'I will forget my lines and everyone will laugh.'
  3. Analyze the emotion: This scary thought makes her feel worried and terrified.
  4. Observe the behavior: Because she is terrified, she hides in the bathroom and avoids the stage.
  5. Change the thought: Maya changes her thought to, 'I practiced hard, and my friends support me.'
  6. Analyze the new behavior: This helpful thought makes her feel brave, so she steps onto the stage and smiles.
