Hi! I am Studyfin, your tutor. Let's learn how daily movement and rest keep your body and brain strong!
Your body needs a balance of two main habits to stay healthy. These habits are getting daily physical activity and getting enough sleep. When you balance both, you have more energy and feel happier.

Daily physical activity keeps your heart strong and builds healthy muscles. Middle school students need at least sixty minutes of active movement every day. This can be running, dancing, or playing sports.
Sleep is when your brain recharges and your muscles repair themselves. Kids your age need nine to eleven hours of sleep every single night. Skipping sleep makes it hard to focus, learn, and stay healthy.
Identify which habits in Maya's daily routine help her stay healthy, and explain why they help. Maya plays soccer for one hour after school. After dinner, she plays video games until midnight. Then, she wakes up at six in the morning for school.
- Look at Maya's daily movement. She plays soccer for one hour. One hour is sixty minutes. This habit meets the daily physical activity goal to keep her heart strong.
- Look at Maya's sleep time. She goes to bed at midnight and wakes up at six. This means she only gets six hours of sleep.
- Compare her sleep to the healthy goal. Six hours is much less than the nine to eleven hours that middle school students need.
- Identify the healthy habits. Playing soccer is a healthy habit that helps her stay fit.
- Identify the unhealthy habit. Sleeping only six hours is not enough. To stay healthy, Maya should go to sleep much earlier.
