Mental & emotional wellness

Grade 7 · Health & Wellness · Free lesson

Hi! I am Studyfin, your tutor. Today we will explore how your thoughts and feelings shape what you do!

Mental and emotional wellness is all about how you handle your thoughts and feelings. Every day, you experience different emotions like joy, anger, or worry. These inner feelings are normal, but they have a huge impact on how you act.

Your thoughts act like a steering wheel for your actions. When you think a positive thought, it usually leads to a helpful behavior. If you think a negative thought, it can lead to a reaction you might regret later.

Thoughts Guide Our Actions

We can analyze this connection by breaking it down into three parts: the Event, your Thought, and your Behavior. By pausing to look at your thoughts, you can choose better actions and boost your mental wellness.

1. Event 2. Thought 3. Action
✏️ Worked example

Let us analyze a real-life situation. Imagine you fail a science quiz. Walk through how two different thoughts about this event can lead to two very different behaviors.

  1. Identify the Event: You receive a low grade on your science quiz.
  2. Analyze Path A: You think, 'I am bad at science, so I should just give up.' This thought makes you feel sad and hopeless.
  3. See the Behavior for Path A: Because of those feelings, you do not study for the next quiz and your grades drop.
  4. Analyze Path B: Instead, you think, 'This quiz was tough, but I can improve if I ask for help.' This thought makes you feel hopeful and motivated.
  5. See the Behavior for Path B: Because of those positive feelings, you ask your teacher for help and study more.
  6. Conclusion: By changing your thought from Path A to Path B, you change your behavior and protect your mental wellness.
