Welcome! Today we will learn how shapes fit and turn in space.
Spatial reasoning means moving shapes in your mind. We analyze given shapes to see how they fit together.

First, analyze the shape. Look at its edges and corners. Next, make a plan to turn or slide it into the slot.
After moving a piece, check your solution. Ask yourself if the match is reasonable and correct.
✏️ Worked example
Which way must you turn an L-shape to fill a vertical gap?
- Analyze the gap: It is tall and narrow.
- Analyze the L-shape: It has a long side and a short end.
- Formulate a plan: Rotate the shape 90 degrees to point the long side up.
- Determine the solution: Turn the piece until the long edge is vertical.
- Evaluate: Check that the piece fits the gap without overlaps.
