A pattern is something that repeats in a regular way. We can find patterns in shapes, numbers, and colors.
To find a pattern, we look closely at the order of things. We identify the core part that repeats over and over.
Once we know the pattern, we can make a prediction. Making a prediction means using clues to guess what comes next.
✏️ Worked example
Look at this pattern: Star, Square, Star, Square. What shape comes next?
- First, look at the very first shape. It is a Star.
- Next, look at the second shape. It is a Square.
- Then, look at the third shape. It is a Star again.
- Now, compare them. We see the pattern is Star, then Square, and then it repeats.
- Using this pattern, we can predict that a Square must come after the Star.
