Hey there! Ready to become a logic detective? Today, we will learn how to use a grid to solve tricky puzzles step by step.

A logic grid is a tool that helps us organize clues. We use it to match different items together, like finding out which friend owns which pet. We fill the grid with 'Yes' or 'No' marks based on the clues we get.

To solve these puzzles, we must analyze the given information carefully. When a clue tells us a match is true, we put a checkmark or 'O' in that box. Since each item only has one match, we can immediately cross out all other boxes in that same row and column.

After making our moves, we must evaluate our process and check if our solution makes sense. Does every person have exactly one pet? Do any clues contradict each other? If everything fits perfectly, we have successfully justified our solution!

Two friends, Leo and Mia, each own one pet. One owns a bird, and the other owns a fish. Clue: Leo's pet does not fly. Use our problem-solving model to find out who owns which pet.

  1. Analyze: We have two people (Leo, Mia) and two pets (bird, fish). The key clue is: 'Leo's pet does not fly.' We also know birds fly and fish do not.
  2. Formulate a Plan: We will create a 2x2 grid. The rows will be Leo and Mia. The columns will be Bird and Fish.
  3. Determine the Solution: Since Leo's pet does not fly, Leo cannot own the bird. We put an 'X' in the Leo-Bird box. This means Leo must own the fish, so we put an 'O' in the Leo-Fish box. Since Leo owns the fish, Mia must own the bird. We put an 'O' in the Mia-Bird box.
  4. Justify and Evaluate: Let's review our grid. Leo owns the fish (does not fly). Mia owns the bird. Each person has one unique pet, and all clues match perfectly. The solution is reasonable and correct!
