Change the mixed number 1 and 2/3 into an improper fraction.
- First, find the denominator of the fraction part. In 1 and 2/3, the denominator is 3. This means each whole has 3 equal parts.
- Next, multiply the whole number by the denominator. Our whole number is 1. We do 1 times 3, which equals 3.
- Then, add the top number of our fraction to that result. The top number is 2. We do 3 plus 2, which equals 5.
- Finally, write this new number over our original denominator. This gives us 5/3. 1 and 2/3 is equal to 5/3!
