Welcome to long division! Today, we will split big numbers into equal parts.
Long division helps us divide large numbers into equal groups. We can also analyze word parts. The prefix trans- means across or change, as in transform.
Let us examine other affixes. The prefix super- means above or extra. The suffix -ive means tending to, and -logy means the study of something.
To perform long division, follow four repeatable steps. First divide, then multiply, next subtract, and last bring down the next digit.
✏️ Worked example
Divide 68 by 2.
Look at the tens digit: 6 divided by 2 is 3.
Multiply 3 by 2 to get 6.
Subtract 6 from 6 to get 0.
Bring down the 8 to make 08.
Divide 8 by 2 to get 4. The quotient is 34.
