Have you ever built a square out of tiny tiles? A square root is simply finding the side length of a square when you already know its total area.
Imagine a square made of 9 smaller tiles. Since 3 rows of 3 make 9, the side length is 3. We say the square root of 9 is 3.
The symbol for square root is called a radical sign. When you see it, ask yourself: 'What number multiplied by itself gives me this value?'

Find the square root of 25 using context clues and your knowledge of perfect squares.
