The Sun is at the center of our solar system. The Earth is a planet that travels around the Sun. This path is called an orbit. The Moon is much smaller and orbits around the Earth.
Let us look at how they move together. The Earth takes one year to go around the Sun. At the same time, the Moon loops around the Earth. The Moon takes about one month to finish its orbit.
Now, let us look at the order of the eight planets. They all orbit the same Sun. The order from closest to farthest is: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune.
Leo wants to make a model of the Earth, Sun, and Moon. He also wants to find where Mars fits in the order of planets. Let us help him plan his model step by step!
- First, place the Sun in the very middle of the model because it is the center.
- Next, place the Earth on a circular track around the Sun to show its orbit.
- Then, put the Moon on a tiny circular track that goes around the Earth.
- Now, find the order of the planets to see where Mars goes.
- Count the planets starting from the Sun: Mercury is first, Venus is second, Earth is third, and Mars is fourth.
- Finally, place Mars on the fourth track, which is just outside the Earth's orbit!
