Hi! I am Studyfin. Today we will ask great questions to learn how plants make their own food!
Plants are amazing. They use sunlight, water, and air to make their own food. This is called photosynthesis.
To learn about plants, we must ask good questions. A good question helps us find new facts. We can ask: How does water get from the dirt up to the green leaves?
We can also clarify our questions to make them better. If we ask a big question like 'How do plants grow?', we can make it smaller and clearer. We can ask: 'Does a plant grow faster in the sun or in the dark?'
✏️ Worked example
Let us practice making a question clearer. Start with the big question: 'What do plants need?' How can we turn this into a clear question we can test?
- Identify the big topic. Here, the topic is what plants need to live.
- Think about one specific thing we can test. Let us choose water.
- Ask what happens if we change that one thing. What if a plant gets no water?
- Write the new, clear question: 'Can a green bean plant grow without water?'
- Now we have a clear question we can test with a real science experiment!
