Long ago, people connected the stars like dots. They drew pictures in the sky called constellations. These pictures help us find and name different stars.
Some constellations look like animals, tools, or heroes. For example, Ursa Major looks like a big bear. Inside this bear is a famous cup shape called the Big Dipper.

Let us learn how to find the Big Dipper in the night sky. We will use our eyes to spot its shape step by step.
First, look toward the northern sky on a clear night.
Next, search for a group of seven bright stars.
Then, look for three stars that make a bent line. This is the handle.
Last, find four stars that make a box. This is the cup.
Now, connect the handle to the cup in your mind. You found the Big Dipper!
