Hi there! I am Studyfin, your science friend. Today we will explore how the Earth, Moon, and Sun move together in space!
The Sun, Earth, and Moon are always moving. The Earth travels in a big circle around the Sun. This path is called an orbit.
The Moon has its own path. It orbits around the Earth. As the Moon moves, the Sun shines light on it. This makes the Moon look like it changes shape.
We can model these movements using our bodies or drawings. This helps us explain how the Moon, Earth, and Sun work as a team.
✏️ Worked example
Let us model how the Earth, Moon, and Sun move. We want to explain which object is at the center of each orbit.
- Step 1: Identify the largest object. The Sun is at the center of our model because it is the biggest.
- Step 2: Place the Earth. Draw the Earth orbiting, or traveling around, the Sun.
- Step 3: Place the Moon. Draw the Moon in a smaller circle, orbiting around the Earth.
- Step 4: Explain the orbits. The Earth goes around the Sun. The Moon goes around the Earth. This model shows how they all move together!
