Electricity moves in wires. It gives power to lights and toys. It can also make magnet power!

Electric flow makes a magnetic field. We call this an electromagnet. You can turn it on and off.

Electromagnet Power

Magnets pull on metal like iron. They can pull or push away other magnets. This helps motors spin.

✏️ Worked example

How can you build a simple magnet with power?

  1. Wrap a thin wire around an iron nail.
  2. Attach the wire ends to a battery.
  3. Touch the nail to small metal paper clips.
  4. Watch the clips stick to the nail!
  5. Remove the battery to turn the magnet off.
