Electricity and magnets are connected! Let's explore how they work together.

Magnets can pull on metals like iron. Every magnet has two ends called poles. Opposite poles pull together, and same poles push apart.

How can you make a simple electromagnet stronger?

  1. Get a battery, an iron nail, and insulated wire.
  2. Wrap the wire around the nail 10 times.
  3. Connect the wire ends to the battery.
  4. Test how many paperclips the nail can pick up.
  5. Wrap 10 more loops of wire around the nail.
  6. Test again to see that more loops pick up more clips.
