Water cycle

Hi there! I am Studyfin, your science buddy. Today, we will explore how water travels all around our world!

Water is always moving. It goes from the ground up to the sky, and then back down again. This endless journey is called the water cycle.

First, the warm sun heats up water in lakes and oceans. This heat turns liquid water into an invisible gas called water vapor. We call this step evaporation.

Evaporation

Next, the warm gas rises high into the cold sky. It cools down and turns back into tiny liquid water drops. These drops bundle together to form fluffy clouds. This step is condensation.

Condensation

Finally, when the clouds get too heavy, the water falls back to Earth. This is precipitation, which we see as rain or snow. The water flows back into lakes, and the cycle starts again!

Let us practice our reading skills using a science story! Read the short text below. Then, let us explain the author's main purpose and message. Text: 'Did you know that the water you drink today is the same water dinosaurs drank? Earth does not get new water. Instead, our planet recycles it over and over again through the water cycle. We must protect this precious, limited resource so there is always enough for everyone.'

  1. Find the author's main purpose. We ask: Why did the author write this? The author wants to teach us how Earth recycles water and warn us to protect it.
  2. Find the author's main message. We ask: What is the big lesson? The message is that our water is limited and highly valuable.
  3. Explain the connection. The author uses the fun dinosaur fact to grab our attention, then explains the recycling process, and finally calls us to action.
  4. Write your final answer. State clearly: The author's purpose is to inform us about water recycling. The message is that we must protect our water because it is limited.
