Hey there! Today we are going on a tiny adventure to discover the amazing building blocks of life: cells!
Did you know that you and every living thing around you are made of tiny blocks called cells? Cells are so small that we need a microscope to see them, but they do all the work to keep us alive!
Think of a cell like a tiny, busy city. The 'brain' of this city is called the nucleus, which holds all the instructions. Surrounding it is a jelly-like fluid called cytoplasm where all the action happens!
In multicellular creatures like us, cells team up! Cells of the same kind join together to make tissue, like muscle tissue. Then, tissues form organs, like your beating heart!
Let's organize the levels of biological organization from the smallest, simplest level to the largest, most complex level.
- Step 1: Start with the absolute smallest unit of life. That is the Cell.
- Step 2: When many of the same cells work together, they form a Tissue.
- Step 3: Different tissues work together to make an Organ (like your stomach or heart).
- Step 4: Organs work together in an Organ System (like the digestive system).
- Step 5: All of these systems combined make up the whole Organism (you!)
