The Sun, Earth, and Moon are always moving in space. They follow paths called orbits. An orbit is a curved path that a smaller object takes around a larger object.
The Earth orbits around the giant Sun because of gravity. At the same time, the tiny Moon orbits around the Earth. The Moon travels with the Earth as we go around the Sun.
As the Moon orbits the Earth, we see different amounts of its lit side. This creates the Moon phases. The Moon does not make its own light; it just reflects the bright Sun.

Identify the center of our neighborhood: The giant Sun is at the very center because of its huge gravity.
