Imagine you want to design a paper airplane that can fly at least 15 feet. Walk through how you would use engineering practices to solve this problem.
Define the goal: You need to make a paper airplane fly 15 feet or more.
Plan and conduct a simple investigation: Fold a basic paper airplane design using a standard piece of paper.
Test your prototype: Throw the airplane five times in a hallway and measure the distance of each flight.
Analyze the results: If the average flight is only 10 feet, look at how the plane flies. Is the nose too heavy? Does it turn to the side?
Iterate and improve: Change the folds to make the wings wider, then test this new design to see if the distance increases.
