Hi there! Today we will explore how sound and light travel. We will also learn how to analyze the parts of a story!

Sound and light are forms of energy that travel in waves. Sound waves need a material like air or water to move, while light waves can travel through empty space.

Sound is a vibration that pushes air particles. These particles bump into each other in a pattern of squeeze-and-stretch, creating a longitudinal wave.

Light waves do not need particles to travel. They are transverse waves, which means they wiggle up and down as they move forward.

Now, let's analyze a story plot! Plots have five main parts: the introduction, rising action, climax (the peak), falling action, and resolution (the ending). We can graph these parts just like a mountain path.

Let's analyze the plot of a short story: 'Sami wants to play his guitar at the school show. He practices hard, but his strings snap right before his turn! He quickly uses a spare string and plays a great song. He bows to the cheering crowd.' Identify the rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution.

  1. Find the start of the action (Rising Action): Sami wants to play and practices hard. The tension builds when his guitar strings snap.
  2. Identify the turning point of highest tension (Climax): Sami quickly replaces the broken string and plays his song on stage.
  3. Look for the winding down of the action (Falling Action): The tension drops as he finishes his song successfully.
  4. Find the final outcome (Resolution): The crowd cheers for Sami as he takes a bow.
