In a solid, particles are packed tight and vibrate in place. When we add heat, the particles slide around as a liquid. If we add even more heat, they fly apart as a gas!
We can connect science to our own lives by thinking of our favorite things. For example, a cold glass of lemonade on a hot summer day shows us all three states of matter: solid ice, liquid juice, and sweet-smelling gas bubbles!

- Then, look for changes. When the liquid batter hits the hot pan, heat changes it into a fluffy, solid pancake.
