Waves are disturbances that carry energy from one place to another. There are two main types: transverse waves, which wiggle up and down, and longitudinal waves, which push back and forth.

Every wave has key features we can measure. Velocity is how fast the wave travels, while frequency is how many waves pass by each second. We can also measure wavelength, which is the distance from one wave peak to the next.
Waves behave in cool ways. They can bounce off walls (reflection), bend through gaps (diffraction), bend when entering water (refraction), or overlap with each other (interference).
Finally, the electromagnetic spectrum contains waves with different frequencies. We use radio waves to broadcast music, microwaves to heat food, and visible light to see our colorful world.
