Rules and laws are like guides. They tell us what we can and cannot do to keep things fair and safe.
Let us look at phonics! The word 'law' has the /aw/ sound, spelled with 'aw'. The word 'rule' has the long /u/ sound with a silent 'e' at the end.
We can learn about rules by reading a play! A play is a drama. It has characters who talk in lines called dialogue. It has settings to show where they are.
✏️ Worked example
Let us act out a drama about rules! We will read a script and name the elements of drama.
Step 1: Look at the title. It says 'Act 1, Scene 1'. This tells us which part of the play we are reading.
Step 2: Read the setting. 'Setting: A bright school playground.' This tells us where the story happens.
Step 3: Read the character names. 'MIA' and 'SAM' are the characters in this drama.
Step 4: Read what they say. MIA: 'We must take turns on the slide!' SAM: 'Yes, that is the rule!' This is the dialogue.
