When the supply of a toy is very low, but many people want it, the demand is high. This makes the price go up because the toy is hard to find.
Now imagine a shop has way too many toys, and nobody wants them. When supply is high and demand is low, the price goes down so the shop can sell them.
Let us think about how we write about this! To write a great paragraph, we first plan by choosing our topic, our goal, and our audience. Then, we draft our sentences to stay focused on one main idea.
Imagine you are writing an article for your school newspaper about why school hoodies sold out in one day. Plan and draft a short explanation that stays focused on supply and demand.
- First, we plan. Our topic is the sold-out school hoodies. Our goal is to explain the quick sales. Our audience is our school classmates.
- Next, we select our main idea: high demand and low supply made the hoodies sell out fast.
- Then, we write our draft. We start with a strong topic sentence: 'Our new school hoodies sold out in just one day!'
- Next, we add details to support this: 'The school only made fifty hoodies, which means the supply was low.'
- Finally, we explain the demand: 'Since almost every student wanted one, the high demand caused them to sell out quickly!'
