¡Hola! I am Studyfin, your Spanish tutor. Let's learn how to say the letters in Spanish!
The Spanish alphabet is very similar to the English one. It has 27 letters, which is just one more than English!

The extra letter in Spanish is the letter Ñ. It sounds like the 'ny' in the word onion. We say it like 'enye'.
In Spanish, the letter H is always silent! When you see 'hola' (hello), you do not say the 'H'. You say it like 'OH-lah'.
✏️ Worked example
How do we pronounce the Spanish word 'piñata' (piñata) step by step?
- Look at the first syllable: 'pi'. In Spanish, the letter 'i' sounds like 'ee'. So, 'pi' sounds like 'pee'.
- Look at the second syllable: 'ña'. The letter 'ñ' sounds like 'ny'. So, 'ña' sounds like 'nyah'.
- Look at the last syllable: 'ta'. The letter 'a' sounds like 'ah'. So, 'ta' sounds like 'tah'.
- Put it all together! You say 'pee-NYAH-tah'.
